Adapted from Lynda La Plante’s bestselling novel, Tennison, ITV CHOICE is proud to present the brand new crime drama, Prime Suspect: Tennison which will premiere on the channel (DStv 123) on Thursday, April 6 at 20.00 - shortly after it airs in the UK.

Starring Stefanie Martini (Doctor Thorne, Endeavour) as the young WPC Jane Tennison, the six‐part drama charts the rise of the novice police woman as she assists in her first murder investigation, revealing her first steps towards becoming the complex and formidable character that viewers have come to know from the original Prime Suspect series.

Adapted by Glen Laker (Vera), the hotly‐anticipated series is set in 1970s Hackney, at a time when woman police constables are slowly being integrated into the force. Amongst them is 22‐year‐old Jane, a naïve yet determined probationary officer learning the ropes in a world where high‐ranking police officers are notoriously chauvinistic and the rules often bent. Working alongside her superior, DI Bradfield (Sam Reid), Tennison is thrown in at the deep end on her first case, experiencing London’s criminal ganglands first hand and witnessing the devastating effects that such crimes have.

Also starring in the gripping new drama are a host of British talent, including Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners), Alun Armstrong (New Tricks), Ruth Sheen (Unforgotten), Jessica Gunning (Fortitude), Andrew Brooke (Babylon), Geraldine Somerville (Titanic), Lex Shrapnel (Crossing Lines), Daniel Ezra (The Missing) and Tommy McDonnell (Glue).

The prequel celebrates seven series of the award-winning iconic police drama, Prime Suspect, which is currently being aired on ITV CHOICE on DStv and which stars Dame Helen Mirren, who brought the character for Jane Tennison to life for the first time.

Says Katherine Wen, Channel Director for ITV CHOICE: "We are delighted to be able to bring this brand new, highly anticipated series to South African television audiences so soon after it premieres in the UK. It is an absolutely brilliant story of how a young police woman learns to persevere, even though the odds are heavily stacked against her to succeed.”

"Prime Suspect: Tennison adds to our slate of top British crime dramas that we have lined up for the channel which includes Prime Suspect, Endeavour, Murdoch Mysteries, Grantchester and - of course - the fabulous Vera with Brenda Blethyn," adds Wen.

Other top shows lined up for ITV CHOICE in the months ahead include a second season of the critically acclaimed series Victoria, the final season of the beloved Martin Clunes show Doc Martin, a third outing of Poldark and more Cold Feet. Plus much, much more top British dramas, comedy and game shows.
